Each model remained basically the same in terms of size and speaker configuration, but the larger models increased in power and some gained extra midrange and master volume controls, and some either a 'pull boost' or 'pull distortion' circuit after about 1972-1976 depending on the model. The silverface amps are surprisingly similar to the coveted Fender blackface line of amps so many blackface mods and tweaks apply to the silverface lineup. It's pretty easy to "blackface" these amps for a full generational regression. I usually prefer switchable mods that allow me to go back to the amp's original circuit and tone. Later Fender blackface and silverface tube amps should NOT have 6L6, 6L6G, 6L6GA or 6L6GB installed, due to higher operating voltages and currents. If you wish to use modern tubes in such amps, stick to a true 6L6GC or KT66.

per Piece N/A * Amp Kit fenderguru.com is a source to vintage Fender guitar amps, mostly blackface and silverface models from the 1960s and 1970s. We explain how good maintenance, mods, tubes, speakers and circuitry components affect your tone and how you may shape it to fit your own musical style and preferences. It was a nice amp, but I prefer an actual Blackface (or a real clone). I had a Carr Rambler, an amp that many say is a great Blackface-style amp. It doesn't sound like a Blackface amp.

This particular amp was mated with a 1966 12" Fender CTS alnico speaker and it sounded wonderful. It was sold ($1300) after I built it - that is a screaming good deal on a Vintage correct hand wired amp.

DATING 1951-1969 BLACKFACE, BROWNFACE, BROWN TOLEX, WHITE TOLEX OR TWEED AMPLIFIERS USING THE TUBE STICKER On the inside of the cabinets of most Fender amps made after 1950 and before 1970, there might be a “tube location” sticker. The blackface Fender amplifier of the 1960’s was the result of Leo Fender working tirelessly to create an amp with a bright cutting tone that would stay clean as bands were getting louder and louder. As a result, it has lots of high end and a scooped mid-range. The blackface amps without reverb, the Deluxe, Vibrolux, Tremolux, Pro, Concert, Showman and Band-Master, have only two preamp gain stages compared to three stages in the Deluxe Reverb, Super Reverb, Vibroverb and Twin Reverb amps. Even though I own a number of Fender "Blackface" amps, one that I always thought pound for pound was the "best" is a Blackface Deluxe Reverb. Something about the 6v6 tone and sparkle, takes pedals well and can cover alot of types of music.
